Hello Future. Say Hello to world-leading self-charging innovation. Say hello to the Toyota Hybrid Range.
For over 25 years, Toyota has revolutionised motoring with its hybrid vehicle range. A major step forward on Toyota’s multi-pathway journey to Carbon Neutral, our hybrids have, in that time, collectively saved more than 120 million tonnes of CO₂ worldwide, compared to equivalent petrol engines. Enjoyed by over 15 million drivers globally, our range of stylish hybrids are ideal for the eco-sensitive individual who still wants the convenience, driving characteristics and user-friendliness of traditional models. With options for everyone, Toyota has you covered for hybrid vehicles.
What is a Toyota Hybrid System?
With two power sources, the Toyota Hybrid System fuses an internal combustion engine’s high-speed power with the clean efficiency and low-speed torque of an electric motor. The electric motor is powerful enough to propel the car along at lower speeds (model dependent) – typically around town or if the driver is using gentle acceleration. A clever power control unit and power split device work with a bespoke CVT transmission to optimise performance by seamlessly switching between electric and a blend of petrol and electric power. In addition, through their regenerative braking systems, hybrids can “recycle” kinetic energy that otherwise would have been wasted. Unlike fully electric vehicles, hybrids give off some tailpipe emissions (much less than conventionally propelled vehicles), but they never need to be plugged in. That makes them a good choice for drivers who want to save fuel without going 100-percent electric.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Choose Hybrid?
User-friendly
Seamlessly switch between electric energy and a blend of petrol and electric power to optimise driving performance and lower emissions.
Self-charging
The self-charging hybrid battery charges when braking or coasting, so there is no need to plug in. Refueling is easy – top up with petrol as normal at fuel stations.
Money-saving
Traffic jams? No problem. A Toyota Hybrid improves your fuel efficiency by spending an average of 50%* of its travel time in electric mode.
Self-Charging Battery
Experience hi-tech innovation when you get behind the wheel of our Toyota Hybrid range with self-charging battery technology. Designed for the future, these ‘Hybrid Electric’ vehicles incorporate two energy sources: a petrol engine and an electric motor.
Power Redefined
The Toyota range gets you moving powerfully thanks to a seamless switch between two power sources – a petrol engine and an electric motor. What’s more, the electric motor provides instant torque which helps propel you quicker off the line.
Powered-Up Battery
Now you can stay powered up for longer with the pioneering battery technology of the Toyota Hybrid. Engineered to last for the entire lifetime of the vehicle, these long-lasting hybrid batteries come with an 8-year/195 000 km warranty.
BREATHTAKING TECHNOLOGY
Start-up
All it takes is a gentle press of the accelerator to feel the hybrid engine whirl into action. When moving at lower acceleration speeds, the power required is provided by the electric engine. This results in enhanced fuel efficiency and low emissions.
Driving
Go the distance and more in a Toyota Hybrid. Enjoy fuel efficiency in various driving conditions. Whether the drive is in city traffic or the wide-open road; the hybrid system leverages the petrol engine and electric motor to power the wheels and electric battery.
Accelerating
Need to make a swift and efficient move? No problem. With two power sources working together, the Toyota Hybrid system delivers smooth power and responsive torque, as and when you need it. And when extra acceleration is desired, both engines power the vehicle to deliver maximum performance.
Braking
Immediate responsiveness and efficiency are some of the benefits of a hybrid system. Thanks to this highly effective regenerative braking system, kinetic energy usually lost during braking is used to charge the battery during deceleration and braking.
Stopping
Unlike conventional petrol engines that consume fuel even when idle, a hybrid engine switches off its petrol engine while decelerating and stopping, which minimises emissions and saves fuel efficiently. The electric motor is immediately ready to take off, for a smooth and seamless ride.
